The Girl Worth Having Won’t Wait For Anybody

Why don’t you tell me that ‘if the girl had been worth having she’d have waited for you’? No, sir, the girl really worth having won’t wait for anybody.”  F. Scott Fitzgerald

I always thought that waiting for somebody was the ultimate proof of love. But, when your love consists only of waiting, you know you are not on the right track.

It seems like all you do is wait. You wait for him to change his mind. You wait for him to man up. You wait for him to come to his senses. You wait for him to realize how much you love him.

You wait for him to realize that he loves you too, that he is scared. You wait for the time to be right. You wait for a miracle. You wait and you get so tired of waiting. The only thing you gain from waiting patiently is wasted time. It can take months or even years to pass till you realize that you are waiting for someone who will never come.

Somebody who really doesn’t want to catch up.

There are people who make you wait and there are those you choose to wait for.

The ones who make you wait are usually just self-centered manipulators that are exploring their options while keeping you close by. They give you just enough to hold on, an occasional text or a call, but never too much to feel like they are truly there. So you get used to it, and you are happy with the crumbs of attention they serve you.

Then, there are those you choose to wait for. They hurt the most because by waiting for them, you are deliberately hurting yourself. It’s completely your choice to be patient and hopeful.

If he left, you are waiting for him to come back. You hope he will have a change of heart and realize he was meant to be with you all along.

Or maybe he was never with you but you are hoping that someday he might notice you. You are putting those people on a pedestal for no reason, and they don’t even know they are there.

You might not even be sure what you are waiting for. You are scared that it might never happen but you are unwilling to let go of the feeling.

The only truth here is that if he was truly worthy, he wouldn’t keep you waiting. He wouldn’t let you wonder about his feelings—he would show them openly.

You wouldn’t have to ask for his attention—he would give it freely.

Waiting for somebody means not giving a chance to somebody else. For somebody who would give you all you want right away.
